The Microsoft components supplied with the Windows Operating Systems are quite adequate for some people, but for those seeking more sophisticated or specialised software, or simply something less prone to virus attacks, we offer the suggestions which we feel are worthy of your consideration:

BROWSERS

Get Firefox!Mozilla Firefox
Probably the best web browswer around at the moment. Sadly there are one or two sites around which are written only to work with Microsoft Internet Explorer but most of these will work if you install the prefbar add-on, then you can safely go pretty much anywhere with Firefox.

Get ThunderbirdMozilla Thunderbird
The first choice for email programs just has to be Thunderbird. It's a slick and powerful email program which includes excellent built-in junkmail filtering and also handles multiple email accounts, multiple identities and Usenet newsgroups with great ease.
